Played poker for a living for the past 5 years. I think I am ready for a break.

I'm a big poker player. I played poker professionally for about 5 years, but I needed a break, which is why I am in Oklahoma right now working. Playing poker for a living took all the fun out of the game. I truely think you need to be in Vegas to do this profession. I was everywhere but Vegas for awhile and had a bad run of cards for about a year. The pressure of supporting yourself playing poker is crazy. You are basically playing on scared money unless you have a bankroll that can support you in case you get a bad run. Hell I lived at the Gold Strike in Tunica, Mississippi for about 3 months off of comps. As long as you play in their poker room, they will give you free room and free food. That's all a poker player needs!

I have had a tough couple of years. I'm tired. I just want to sit down at a table and relax and have fun. I have learned so much about life and people. That is one thing poker has taught me that I will never forget. Now if I could just get the opportunity to do something with it, that would be great.

The disadvantage of learning this game is learning how to read people. You start to watch people more closely and it's amazing how you can tell when they are lieing. Just in everyday worklife I can be talking to a person and watching them and then BAM...they made that move when you know they are full of it. You learn that most people are full of bullshit. It makes it hard to trust people.

The start of my poker career. Boy I had a lot to learn!

Where do I start. I guess I will start at what got me into playing poker other than the fact my Dad had been playing it for years and I was raised with the gambling aspect in the household. By the time I was 12 I was dealing at the local Domino Hall and earning tips! Heck I had nothing else to do, so I just went with my Dad everywhere.

After college I got a job at Nestle but was living at home. So I started playing poker online because I was bored at night. It was mostly play money… Continue

Hi , we are holding a freeroll at timeless this coming friday and i am inviting all my APCW friends
Just visit the forum , http://www.invisionplus.net/forums/index.php?mforum=5thstreetforum&showtopic=965 , to get the info

Also , if you havent already heard , we hold a monthly Charity game for the Make a Wish Foundation , its on the 1st saturday every month , its only $4 to enter with half the buy in going to the kids .
This is played at http://www.carbonpoker.com/_06ea9cf5d67c98d7e4b6002f06212308/1

You can find it listed under Tournaments/ Private.
Its named "The 5th Street Charity Ball"

We usually get around 50 players in this every month but it would be great to see the numbers rise and raise ALOT more money for the kids

No matter where you finish at the end of the tournament you win because half of the money goes to the Make a Wish Foundation. Stop and think for even half a minute; how would you feel if that $2 from your entry that goes to the foundation is all that was needed to make it possible for a gravely ill child to do that one thing they wish to do before they die? Personally that thought almost takes my breath away!
So come on and get yourself registered and have some fun playing and the that really good feeling because you made a child's last wish come true!!

Keep up writing the blog.... and have fun at the tables.
